April is a busy month at Jyoshinmon NZ! We have an Open Day at our New Lynn Dojo as well as an Interclub tournament. And don't forget, those that are wanting to grade, there is PreGrading training on the first weekend of May.
Open Day
Our New Lynn Dojo is running on Open Day on Saturday 10th April to get new members. Not just for us, but also for the other martial arts and fitness classes that are run there. There will be free classes run from 10am to 2.30pm for Karate, Adults Jiu Jitsu, Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, FIT2FITE and Bootcamp.
How you can help
1 - We need people to know about the Open Day so that they come down and have a look. Please tell your family members and friends about it. If you're on Facebook, please share our post: https://www.facebook.com/JyoshinmonNewZealand/posts/3827684364006120.
2 - Come along and give it a go. We need members to take part in the Karate sessions so that newcomers can see what it's like. But also, try some of the other classes as well. Ever wanted to have a go at Aikido? Want to get fit with the bootcamp but worried it might be too hard? Now's the time to try!
The timetable for the Open Day and information about the classes is available on The Dojo website: https://thedojo.co.nz/openday
Interclub Tournament
We are running a small tournament just for Jyoshinmon members. It's a great introduction to sport Karate so if you've never done it before, this is the one to try. As well as the competition itself, there will be some sport specific training to make sure that everyone knows the rules before we begin.
To take part in the Kata competition, you do not need any additional equipment. To take part in the Kumite competition, you will need a mouth guard and the correct gloves which you can purchase from your Sensei if you're not sure you have the correct ones.
You can pick up an entry form at your Dojo. Cut the entry form off, fill it out and return it to your Sensei by Thursday 15th April.
Grading and PreGrading
For those of you that have not sat a Grading before our process runs like this:
- PreGrading training is a special training run 2 or 3 weeks before the Grading which will focus solely on what you will be tested on at your Grading if you are invited. Sessions are run by grade so that the whole session can be dedicated to what is needed for that level grade. This special training is recommended, but not required if you want to Grade.
- Up to a week before the Grading, invitations will be given to those students that your Sensei feels are sufficiently good to pass. We do not like to have members take a Grading who we feel are unlikely to pass the test. If you do not receive an invite, you may speak to your Sensei about this, however their decision is final.
- The Grading will run throughout the weekend in multiple sessions. You only need to attend the session according to your current Grade. A ceremony is held at the end of each session where those that have passed their Grading are given their certificate and new belt if applicable. Those that have not passed will need to sit it again at a future Grading.
Invoices and Receipts
All of our invoices and receipts will be sent via email from April onwards. If you have any problems with the system please email Sensei Chris and he will try to help: cbennett@jyoshinmon.org.nz.
